School Council

Our school council consists of a boy and girl from each year group and the two school prefects and we meet together once a fortnight. Our council also takes the role of the school Eco Team and the eco co-ordinator is the school caretaker, Mr Derek Dodd. The Headteacher and eco co-ordinator both attend meetings. Setting the agenda is a shared task and the two Year 6 reps act as secretaries, taking responsibility for writing and distributing the minutes.

All kinds of things are discussed, such as how to spend money we have raised from recycling, which lessons pupils like the best and how we can improve school. Members of the school council sometimes report back to the whole school in assembly and sometimes to their own classes. Teachers and governors sometimes visit school council meetings to help with extra information or to ask for pupil’s ideas.

As our school eco team there are special responsibilities such as making sure the noticeboard is kept up to date, helping with recycling and looking after our school sensory garden. All members of the school council wear their badges in school so that they can be recognised and other children can ask them for help if they want to.
